Santa Ynez River Groundwater Basin Stakeholder Outreach and Engagement Well Data Collection and 3D Geologic Model

2026-04-02T15:57:29-06:00August 19th, 2021|

The Santa Ynez River Groundwater Basin (SYRGB or Basin) is comprised of three distinct Management Areas, the Western Management Area (WMA), Central Management Area (CMA), and Eastern Management Area (EMA). Each Management Area is governed by a Groundwater Sustainability Agency (GSA), all of which are working collaboratively to develop Groundwater Sustainability Plans (GSPs) for the Basin. The three GSPs will be managed under a coordination agreement, in accordance with the California Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) regulations.

LNAPL Characterization and Off-site Stormwater Assessment

2026-04-02T16:46:36-06:00August 19th, 2021|

An active rail yard in Grand Rapids, Michigan has been used as a rail car storage and maintenance facility for the last 100 years. Diesel fuel impacts entered the subsurface during this period, resulting in 7.8 acres of light non-aqueous phase liquid (LNAPL) up to seven feet in thickness. Years of active LNAPL recovery had not sufficiently addressed underlying risks to potential environmental and human health receptors.

Remediation and Other Environmental Services at the Northside Generating Station

2026-04-02T16:51:11-06:00June 28th, 2021|

JEA’s Northside Generating Station has supplied electrical power to the City of Jacksonville since the 1960s and currently operates three boilers and four combustion turbine generators. Prior Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) investigations detected impacts to groundwater, surface water, soil, and sediments at multiple solid waste disposal areas.

Waterfront Toronto River Channel Risk Management Design and Construction Support

2026-04-02T16:58:32-06:00June 16th, 2021|

A clear example of our capabilities in transforming highly contaminated former industrial waterfront properties into a livable community with improved uses is our experience with the over 700-acre Waterfront Toronto redevelopment project that has a budget of over $1.25 billion.

Electrokinetic Enhanced Bioremediation (EK-BIOTM) Full-Scale Implementation for Source Area Remediation in Clay Till

2026-04-02T16:19:31-06:00January 6th, 2021|

A significant portion of the near-surface geology in Denmark includes glacial moraine deposits, much of which consists of clayey till. Consequently, subsurface releases and spills of chlorinated solvents at industrial facilities in Denmark often end up as a sorbed phase or nonaqueous phase liquid (NAPL) that resides in clayey till.

Remedial Investigation / Feasibility Study Matthiessen & Hegeler Zinc Company Site

2026-04-06T11:56:53-06:00January 4th, 2021|

The Carus Chemical Company owns a chemical manufacturing plant and adjacent land that includes a slag pile from a former zinc smelting operation. The slag pile and the adjacent Little Vermilion River (LVR) are part of Operable Unit 1 (OU1) of the Matthiessen & Hegeler Zinc Company Superfund Site.

Barge Decommission, Dismantle and Dispose Project

2026-05-26T08:29:43-06:00October 27th, 2020|

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) awarded a $35 million contract to decommission, dismantle, and dispose a nuclear reactor installed on a barge in Texas. A few days after a crane was erected on a single layer of lattice crane mats (and while the crane was stationary) subsidence of approximately 3-1/2” was noted below the west crane mat with no observable subsidence below the east crane mat. The crane was removed and a ground improvement program was implemented including installing dry soil cement mix piers (piers) to improve the bearing capacity. Due to obstructions during drilling, only 75 percent of the piers were installed to the design depth. The project required use of this crane for a period of about one year and its successful deployment was critical.

AGE Biomass Renewable Energy Plant

2026-05-26T08:30:51-06:00October 27th, 2020|

DCO Energy, LLC (DCO), was the design-build contractor for the $200M, 50 MW AGE Biomass Renewable Energy Plant in Albany, Georgia, a project jointly developed by Constellation Energy (Exelon) and Proctor and Gamble Co., Inc. The original foundation design by a local consultant had resulted in a very conservative working pile resistance and a significant number of costly battered piles. Therefore, new steel H-pile foundations were proposed.
