Remote Sensing Collection and Analysis

Clients seek out Geosyntec to collect, provide, and analyze comprehensive and accurate data from large and often inaccessible areas. To support them, we use technologies including drones, InSAR data, LiDAR processing, bathymetry, and satellite imagery to expeditiously and cost-effectively collect better data while minimizing risk.

Practice Specifics

At Geosyntec, we use unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) to complement and strengthen our comprehensive technical services:

  • Site inspections and reconnaissance
  • Post-wildfire assessment
  • Detailed topographic analysis
  • Construction quality assurance
  • Site-specific operational earthwork analysis
  • Construction as-built surveys
  • Geohazards identification
  • Marketing materials, including photos and videos of sites

3D Mapping

We employ survey-grade Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) equipment and mapping sensors using an industrial-grade drone platform. This advanced equipment, when paired with robust post-processing survey workflows and point cloud editing software, can deliver UAS data outputs with centimeter-level 3D positional accuracy. Data outputs include ultra-dense colorized point clouds, accurate ortho-rectified mosaic imagery, and Civil 3D terrain surfaces.

Vegetation Penetration

UAS equipped with LiDAR can be used to penetrate dense foliage to create high-resolution 3D maps that reveal the underlying vegetation and terrain. With this technology, we can crate bare-earth digital elevation models to support engineering design.

3D Colorized Point Clouds

Using UAS, we can capture millions of points in space to create detailed and accurate maps and models to support engineering design.
