Lantmännen, an agricultural cooperative and Northern Europe’s leader in agriculture, machinery, bioenergy, and food products, retained Geosyntec to undertake our unique holistic due diligence. The target, specialty fuel supplier Coryton, has a strong base in the United Kingdom and operates in Europe and the American continents. If successful, the acquisition would give Lantmännen opportunities and synergies within the growing sustainable fuel segment.

Environmental Due Diligence Phase I ESA and Phase II GI for a Complicated Target Site Dating from 1777

Geosyntec was retained by a major food and beverage process engineering and machinery manufacturer to undertake environmental due diligence; the global target company manufactured seed processing machinery used to produce vegetable and plant-based food-grade oils. The facility, in Kingston-Upon-Hull, Yorkshire, England, had been at the same location since 1777 and had undertaken many building projects through the centuries, the latest of which was in response to the destruction of the facility, adjacent buildings, and infrastructure during the Hull Blitz in 1941.

Analysis and Design for Final Clarifiers in England

The Budds Farm Wastewater Treatment Works operated by Southern Water Services Ltd. treats waste water from the Portsmouth and Havant catchments. Prior to 2006, the Wastewater Treatment Works at Budds Farm had eight final clarifiers of 35m internal diameter. In order to meet the requirement of projected AMP4 flows, the existing settlement tanks were modified and two new 35m diameter clarifiers were built to operate alongside the existing eight tanks.

Optimizing Flow and Load Distribution Within a Sewage Treatment Distribution Chamber in England

Civil engineering structures are used to distribute the flow and solid loads to multiple settling tanks or activated sludge plant (ASP) lanes at a sewage treatment works (STW). Achieving a good solids distribution requires adequate mixing to homogenise the solids, but this can be detrimental to achieving a good flow distribution, which normally requires quiescent conditions.

Storm Tank Optimization for a Sewage Pumping Station in England

During periods of heavy rainfall, Eastney Sewage Pumping Station diverts flow to the Fort Cumberland Storm Tank.  During the first flush, the solids content of the flow is higher than normal, which overloads 6mm band screens located upstream of the storm tank. In order to help separate a greater quantity of solids from the flow and enable the screens to work as intended, it was proposed that the storm tank receives the flow and provides a residence time for solids to settle.

Re-Suspension of Aeration Lanes for a Sewage Treatment Works in England

Severn Trent Water commissioned Geosyntec to investigate the optimal configuration of the Aqua Turbo aerators at the Melton Mowbray Sewage Treatment Works. These units aerated the mixed liquors using a screw impeller that drew up and impinged the fluid onto a flat plate above the water surface, creating a spray.

Modeling of Humus Tanks for a Sewage Treatment Facility in England

There are a large number of legacy biological filtration plants in the UK, dating back to the 1920s and 1930s. In such plants, the influent wastewater is screened and settled in primary tanks prior to filtration in biological filter beds.  Effluent from these beds passes to humus tanks, where residual solids are allowed to settle out. Final effluent may then be polished through sand filters prior to discharge. Humus tanks are similar in design to other types of primary and secondary settlement tanks. They can be of radial flow, upward flow, or horizontal flow types. The sludge must be removed from the tanks regularly and continuously in a large works.

Review of Chlorine Contact Tank for a Spring Water Treatment Works in England

Upton Scudamore Water Treatment Works (WTW) is a groundwater treatment works located near Warminster in Wiltshire. The works has a maximum daily output of 15Ml/d, and the water can supply over 100,000 customers in the surrounding area. Upton Scudamore WTW is supplied with raw water from three distinct sources; two from ground water springs (9 Ml/d total) and another from boreholes (6 Ml/d). Tailored treatment processes are required for the springs (chlorine disinfection only) and boreholes (iron oxidation, then filtration and chlorine disinfection).
