Project Specifics

Hudayriyat Island is a reclaimed landmass adjacent to Abu Dhabi’s main island and occupies an area of approximately 29.6 square kilometers. It will have approximately 30 kilometers of waterfront developments on all sides, along with housing for Emiratis, commercial, and leisure use. The master plan details turning Hudayriyat island into mixed-use community themed around culture, coastline living, pearl diving, and nature.

Geosyntec was chosen to design 33 kilometers of edges as well as dredging, reclamation, ground improvement, and Hill design, which included significant coastal modeling.

Geosyntec Scope of Services

As part of the Hudayriyat Island East and Central project, Geosyntec practitioners supported the detailed design and construction supervision of 2 kilometers of beach, 12 kilometers of rock revetment, 6 kilometers of edge treatment, and 60-meter-high hills.

Notable Accomplishments

In 2019, we prepared a coastal master plan that converted the existing beach-maintenance plan to an overall coastal master plan for the oceanfront, which is an 8-mile shoreline and two inlets. The plan identifies short-term and long-term goals, strategies, and projects, and the final plan is the result of three public meetings and two work sessions with the Town’s Inlet and Beach Protection Board.

Note: At the time of this project, Geosyntec practitioners were contracted as ATM, which was acquired by Geosyntec.
