Project Specifics

Geosyntec was commissioned by NEOM to design the shoreline protection for a coastal road along the Gulf of Aqaba. At 120 kilometers in length and an average width of 3.5 kilometers, the site included a total land area of approximately 430 square kilometers alongside the Gulf of Aqaba, a large gulf at the northern tip of the Red Sea. In addition to conducting extensive coastal numerical modeling, Geosyntec provided marine engineering consultancy services for the development of marina locations.

Geosyntec Scope of Services

Geosyntec practitioners conducted a site assessment of NEOM’s main marine assets in the Gulf of Aqaba and provided recommendations. Geosyntec developed a comprehensive study that included marina site analysis, marina concept analysis and alternatives, marina final concept design, and financial model analysis. To support marina concept design, our team developed a site-specific wave hindcast model for the Gulf of Aqaba to extract wind and wave climate and extreme conditions at two offshore locations.

Notable Accomplishments

Our work in the Gulf of Aqaba, one of the most beautiful regions in NEOM, leveraged its exceptional marine characteristics, mountainous landscape, and natural beauty.

Note: At the time of this project, Geosyntec practitioners were contracted as ATM, which was acquired by Geosyntec.
