Project Specifics

The client is working to provide a reliable and sustainable groundwater supply for the design, development, and operation of a large-scale data center project. To accomplish this, they require a comprehensive evaluation of the site’s groundwater supply, including the physical and legal availability of water, water quality, and the condition of existing water infrastructure. Following initial evaluation, they require technical support in well siting, design, drilling, and testing for new groundwater supply wells to fit site redevelopment plans. Additionally, the project requires specialized permitting and regulatory support on local, regional, and national laws and permitting requirements for site redevelopment, as well as developing partnerships with agencies and stakeholders.

Geosyntec Scope of Services

Geosyntec was retained by the client to evaluate the site’s existing water resources and potential for redevelopment for the proposed data center. Geosyntec hydrogeologists conducted a thorough review of the site history and an onsite inspection of existing wells and water infrastructure. Following initial review, our hydrogeologists and water rights experts thoroughly evaluated the physical and legal availability of the water supply. Geosyntec then helped the client form relationships with the local utility district and other stakeholders. We also helped coordinate with all parties to form a site development plan that included well siting. Site development agreements are in progress, and Geosyntec will provide continued technical support and coordination for the project, including design, drilling, and testing of multiple large-scale production wells.

Notable Accomplishments

Geosyntec used its broad experience in the water supply sector to bring together a small and effective consulting team for the project with local knowledge and experience. Along with existing, trusted relationships with local utilities, regulators, and other stakeholders, this local knowledge provided unmatched value to the project, minimizing project timelines and reducing permitting efforts. Additionally, Geosyntec’s deep experience in well design and construction has been critical for developing realistic and achievable development plans that will help long-term project success and reduce risks to development and long-term operation.
