Geohazards

Whether onshore or offshore, extensive networks of pipelines, power transmission lines, and infrastructure must be built on changing and unstable geologic conditions called geohazards. Geohazards are major threats to structures, their owners, and communities.

Geosyntec’s geologists, geotechnical engineers, archaeologists, and experts in related fields work around the world to help clients address hazards, safeguard their investments, and protect communities and the natural environment.

Onshore Geohazards

Larges structures such as pipelines, bridges, dams, landfills, tunnels, and transmission lines stretch across varying terrain, cross watercourses, and often encounter many kinds of geohazards.

Upstream, midstream, and downstream oil-and-gas clients turn to Geosyntec to assess and manage geohazards to critical infrastructure.

Offshore Services

Offshore pipelines, power transmission cables for offshore wind, fixed bottom facilities, and related structures are subjected to numerous hazards related to changing and unstable geological conditions.

Clients who build and maintain these large and complex structures trust Geosyntec to assess offshore geohazards using high-resolution geophysical and seismic data.

We prioritize work that will have the biggest impact, spearheading geophysical, geological, and geotechnical site investigations in shallow and deep water, often in areas with complex geology and soil conditions.

  • Geosyntec provides nationally recognized expertise and specialized geotechnical and geological engineering (geoengineering) services to evaluate and improve the design and construction engineering properties of soil and rock foundations.

  • The scale of renewable energy projects can be vast. In addition, they must withstand unrelenting and extreme marine forces. For these reasons, such projects require integrated geophysical, geological, and geotechnical characterization.

  • Solutions for Shallow Hazards Our practitioners leverage high-resolution geophysical and seismic data to assess offshore geohazards. These data sets serve as foundations for seafloor and subsurface interpretation for assessments of shallow hazards

  • Pipelines stretch across many types of terrain, cross watercourses, and encounter changing and unstable geologic conditions called geohazards. Whether naturally occurring or human-triggered, geohazards can damage infrastructure, cause significant delays in operation, and, sometimes, obstruct the remediation of important sites.

Lead Practitioners

Looking for a partner in innovation?

Geosyntec supports our practitioners as they explore new ideas, find new uses for established technologies, and develop more efficient ways of serving our clients. We work across disciplines, often partnering with universities, researchers, and clients, to develop and commercialize leading-edge solutions.
