The medal was awarded for the paper he coauthored, “Geotechnical Visualization and Three-Dimensional Geostatistics Modeling of Highly Variable Soils of a Hydraulic Fill Dam.” The resulting article was featured in the September 2022 issue of the Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering.
Santiago’s coauthors are Tejo Bheemasetti of the University of Arizona, Anand Puppala of Texas A&M University, and Sayantan Chakraborty of the Birla Institute of Technology and Science.
Santiago is a Project Engineer with expertise in geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering. His experience includes foundation design, field and laboratory exploration management, ground improvement, retaining structures, earthquake engineering, landfill engineering, geosynthetics application, and finite element modeling.
The award, established by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), honors exceptional contributions to engineering research. Named after John James Robertson Croes, a former ASCE president, this prestigious award is given annually to authors of papers published in ASCE journals that exhibit practical value and significant impact on engineering practice.
Founded in 1852, ASCE is a leading provider of technical and professional conferences and continuing education, the world’s largest publisher of civil engineering content, and an authoritative source for codes and standards that protect the public.
