James Wang Coauthored USEPA Guidance Document on Electrokinetic In Situ Remediation
James (Yu-Sheng) Wang, PhD, PE (Maryland), coauthored the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) guidance document, “Electrokinetic (EK) Enhanced In Situ Remediation.” This issue paper appears as part of the organization’s Science Inventory and was published in May 2024.
James was the lead author on the paper, and David Gwisdalla from the USEPA was his coauthor.
James is a Principal Environmental Engineer with more than 25 years of experience focused on developing and applying innovative assessment and remediation technologies. James built his practice by providing clients with best-practice solutions tailored to solving their most challenging problems.
The Science Inventory Engineering Issue Papers are technology-transfer documents that summarize the latest information on selected waste-treatment and site-remediation technologies and related issues and present it to users in a conveniently accessible manner. These issue papers help remedial project managers, on-scene coordinators, contractors, and other practitioners understand the type of data and site characteristics needed to evaluate a technology for a specific site. They also feature ways to design and optimize a technology for a particular application.
Description/Abstract
This Engineering Issue Paper summarizes the current knowledge on EK-enhanced in situ remediation technologies that are deployed for the purpose of removing contaminants in low-permeability (low-k) media. As a technical support document, it describes EK-enhanced remediation with a focus on remedial scoping needs based on direct experience with the development and deployment of the technology in the field. This paper also summarizes relevant information from peer-reviewed literature, government reports, and gray literature (e.g., websites, conference proceedings) and provides references for more in-depth information.
