The United States Department of Commerce and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) awarded the $4.9 million grant. Teaming partners include the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, the National Weather Service, Lorain Community College, Central State University, the Ohio Sea Grant, the Ohio State University Stone Laboratory, and area businesses and workforce partners.
This collaborative four-year project will help train climate-ready workers in the Ohio Great Lakes region, preparing them to address water resources challenges while supporting communities in the region. The project helps build a specialized workforce in stormwater management, risk assessment, watershed sciences, environmental compliance, environmental justice, and data analytics.
The program began on August 1, 2024, and aims to train at least 100 technicians, scientists, and engineers.
