Geosyntec Helps Prepare Regional Guide on Flood Resilience and Equity

Geosyntec and the Center for Neighborhood Technology (CNT) coauthored “Integrating Equity into Flood Resilience Investments,” on behalf of the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP).

Though nearly every community in northeastern Illinois experiences flooding, not all are affected equally. The guide focuses on flooding resilience and how communities throughout the region can prepare for potential emergencies before they happen.

Matt Bardol, PE, CFM, CPESC, D.WRE, led Geosyntec’s work on this publication in close collaboration with the CMAP team. In Matt’s words, “I was honored to work with the incredible team at CMAP and serve as the Project Director for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to use my subject matter expertise in climate resiliency and adaptation and make a positive equitable impact on the diverse communities in my home city.”

Matt is a Senior Principal Engineer based in Illinois with more than 20 years of diverse environmental and water resource engineering experience, providing a breadth of technical expertise to address the most complex water resource situations with innovative solutions.

CNT is dedicated to fostering equitable, sustainable, and resilient neighborhoods. They collaborate with community-based organizations and local governments to enhance cities’ economic and environmental sustainability, resilience, and quality of life.

CMAP is a regional government agency that works on behalf of the 8.6 million residents of northeastern Illinois. CMAP works to create a robust and inclusive regional community, an inclusive transportation system, and a plan to address climate change and protect water quality.
