The Society for Underwater Technology in the US (SUT-US) is presenting this course. Geosyntec is a course sponsor.
Kim’s co-teacher is Amanda Evans of Gray & Pape, Inc.
Kim is a Senior Principal Marine Archaeologist with more than 25 years of experience in marine archaeology and more than 20 years of experience in offshore energy. On behalf of clients, Kim has worked on sites from Maine to Alaska, providing dive support, excavation, conservation, and archaeological interpretations of submerged cultural resources. Kim is a Fellow of the Society for Underwater Technology and a member of SUT-US’s executive committee.
The SUT was founded to advance the understanding of the underwater environment and foster collaboration across academia, industry, and government in developing ocean exploration technologies, promoting sustainable resource use, and supporting marine science education.
About the Course
“Introduction to Marine Archaeology” integrates geology and geophysics with archaeology to delineate, identify, and assess inundated cultural resources, such as shipwrecks and submerged paleolandscapes. The 1.5-day comprehensive course introduces industry professionals to marine archaeology as it intersects with offshore energy project development. It will cover topics including regulatory environments in the United States and around the world, the potential for unanticipated discoveries, data acquisition and interpretation, risk management, and project planning. By incorporating case studies, instructors will explore the synergies between marine archaeology, geohazards, and site investigations and will address the benefits of proactive project planning. This course is sponsored by the Offshore Site Investigation and Geotechnics Committee of the SUT-US.
