Geosyntec Staff to Present at Geo-Congress 2024

Rudy Bonaparte, PhD, PE, D.GE, F.ASCE, NAE; Lelio Mejia, PhD, PE, NAE; Thierno Kane, PhD, PE; Pourya Kargar, PhD, PE; Tim Copeland, PhD, PE; and Berk Turkel, PhD, A.M.ASCE, will present during Geo-Congress 2024 at the Vancouver Convention Centre in Vancouver, Canada, on February 25 through 28, 2024.

Rudy is a Senior Principal Engineer based in Georgia with more than 40 years of experience in geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering. His work often involves assessing and remediating contaminated sites, waterways, and sediments and permitting and designing disposal facilities for solid, hazardous, and low-level radioactive wastes. Rudy served as the President and CEO of Geosyntec for 20 years and now chairs Geosyntec’s Board of Directors.

Lelio is a Senior Principal Engineer based in California with more than 35 years of experience. For many years, he has focused on the challenges of dam and levee engineering and is a leading international authority in this field, with emphasis on the seismic design and performance of dam structures. Lelio leads Geosyntec’s Western United States dams and levees practice and is a registered civil and geotechnical engineer.

Thierno is an Engineer based in Illinois who focuses on landslide movement and slope stability, geotechnical laboratory testing and analyses, and shear strength and consolidation. He has experience in civil and geotechnical engineering consulting and design for foundations and earth-retention systems, and liquefication and seepage analyses.

Pourya is an Engineer based in Missouri who has designed and constructed tunnels, embankments, excavations, levees, foundations, and other geo-structures in the United States, Iran, Canada, and Mexico. He investigates the cyclic response of soils to evaluate liquefaction in sites with susceptible media.

Tim is an Engineer based in Florida with a background in heavy industrial pavement, geotechnical investigations, and sinkhole analysis. His experience includes site investigation, construction quality assurance, and the analysis and design of heavy industrial pavement systems.

Berk is a Senior Staff Professional based in Massachusetts with research experience in numerical modeling, pile dynamics, construction vibrations, and deep foundations. He is skilled in the analysis of geo-structures using advanced soil constitutive models.

Geo-Congress 2024, hosted by the Geo-Institute, invites engineers, academics, and others to speak on topics that address challenging geotechnical issues. The conference includes a wide range of technical and panel sessions, short courses, and workshops. The Geo-Institute promotes the geotechnical profession and helps members advance their careers. Its 13,000 practitioners and over 60 organizational members include scientists, engineers, technologists, and organizations working to improve the environment, mitigate natural hazards, and construct economically engineered facilities.
