Client Service

A fluvial geomorphologist and ecosystem restoration scientist, David focuses on rivers and coastal systems, their processes, and the ecosystems they support. He manages projects and serves as technical lead for geomorphic assessments and technical studies, from site assessments and remedial designs for linear (hydrotechnical focus) and nonlinear projects to watershed-scale and multistate assessments for pipeline projects spanning entire regions.

David applies his knowledge of ecology, fluvial and coastal geomorphology, hydrology, hydraulics, and engineering to assess and restore degraded ecosystems, especially in watersheds where natural flow regimes have been altered by urbanization, development, diversion, or dams. He has worked throughout the United States to address complex ecosystems with human influences and to develop solutions that balance the needs of ecosystems and the needs of the people, communities, and cities.

His work addresses a wide range of ecosystems, including salt marshes and intermontane wetlands and the rivers and riparian systems that connect them and includes characterizing the geomorphic and physical processes of ecosystems, analyzing the fate and transport of sediment, developing water resources plans, and restoring or stabilizing streams, wetlands, salt marshes, and riparian systems. David also manages stakeholder involvement for complex projects and supports litigation regarding geomorphic issues, including providing technical geomorphic assessments, expert reports, and expert testimony.
