Project Specifics
Geosyntec designed, permitted, and monitored the construction of a living shoreline, shoreline stabilization, and passive park-enhancement project.
Geosyntec Scope of Services
Our team developed engineering alternatives that used a living shoreline solution to protect and enhance more than 1,000 feet of waterfront at the junction of the St. Lucie River and the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway.
Notable Accomplishments
While the primary goal of the project was to prevent further erosion along the waterfront park, we designed the project to create mangrove habitat and incorporated structures with a natural appearance that would provide scenic views. Additional benefits included creating wildlife habitat through native shoreline planting and incorporating educational and recreational opportunities for the public.
In addition, our team designed an aluminum sheet-pile bulkhead and two concrete and timber pedestrian piers as an upland amenities. We helped the County obtain Florida Inland Navigation District grant funding for a portion of the project design and construction costs.
Note: At the time of this project, Geosyntec practitioners were contracted as ATM, which was acquired by Geosyntec.
