Project Specifics
Geosyntec collaborated with the project team for two years to provide coastal and marina master planning services for the Red Sea Global project. This work included marina and yachting consultancy services to support the development of the conceptual master plan and detailed master plan of a large-scale regional marina and yachting infrastructure system in a sensitive environmental area.
Geosyntec Scope of Services
The scope of work included site reconnaissance, marina market studies, marine habitat mapping, environmental analysis, and marine spatial planning. The marina market studies informed the planning process and the financial feasibility studies of each of the marinas. Geosyntec proposed and developed strategic documents on boating infrastructure, marina environmental design, marina social sustainability, and sustainable use of natural habitats for yachting destinations.
While the detailed master plan (DMP) package has been finalized under the infrastructure master plan (IMP) contract, Geosyntec assisted the client by supporting Theming Architects, who were selected after a comprehensive and rigorous design competition, in the early stages of Phase 1 projects. Geosyntec also provided marine services for the enabling construction works package.
Notable Accomplishments
The master plan encompasses marina assets comprising more than 30 facilities and almost 2,000 berths for recreation, tourism, guest transport, and services in more than 20 islands and coastal sites in the Al Wajh lagoon. Under this contract, Geosyntec supported a large multidisciplinary team that combined the IMP team, the architecture master plan team, and the development team created by the client.
Note: At the time of this project, Geosyntec practitioners were contracted as ATM, which was acquired by Geosyntec.
