Corporate Greenhouse Gas Inventory for a Global Oil and Gas Company
« All Projects

Project Objective

Geosyntec was engaged by a global oil and gas client to develop a corporate greenhouse gas (GHG) emission inventory incorporating data from more than 400 sites in the United States and internationally. Geosyntec provided expert guidance on inventory methods for national and jurisdictional compliance reporting and for voluntary GHG disclosures. The goal of the project was to develop an efficient and effective GHG data system to support corporate capital and operational decision-making, compliance reporting, and corporate disclosures.

Geosyntec’s Scope of Services

First, we assessed baseline operational GHG performance and ESG-related initiatives that the client was already considering. We then recommended a plan to implement existing and newly identified ESG-initiatives in phases.

Geosyntec developed a companywide baseline GHG inventory of more than 400 facilities. This inventory was designed to be consistent with the industry’s best standards for GHG accounting including “The GHG Protocol: A Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard,” published by the World Resources Institute and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development. Geosyntec reviewed and identified sources of GHG emissions, defined organizational boundaries, developed a data-collection strategy and appropriate GHG emission calculation methods, and analyzed results.

Notable Accomplishments

The corporate GHG inventory was developed on an accelerated timeline and became a critical tool for the client to set corporate carbon emission reduction targets. Geosyntec continues to support the client by developing science-based targets that identify a clear path to corporate decarbonization.
