The client received a Notice of Violation related to air compliance for a facility in California. This led the company’s management to implement an auditing program for all 14 of its facilities to proactively identify similar issues in other locations. Geosyntec was retained to perform the environmental compliance assessments for 14 facilities across the United States. Subsequently, the company retained Geosyntec to help with correction action implementation and in the development of a standardized Environmental Management System (EMS).
Geosyntec's Scope of Services
Geosyntec first evaluated facility documents and developed a protocol to complete in in-person and virtual audits. Geosyntec assembled a team of auditors with regulatory knowledge in each of the specific states that the company operated in. The majority of audits were in-person audits; however, Geosyntec also conducted virtual audits at five of the smaller, less complicated facilities. The multi-media environmental audits took place over a two-week period and if significant findings were made, they were addressed immediately. For example, some sites required hazardous waste characterization and determination, so Geosyntec worked with the client to develop a sampling protocol, obtain the necessary samples of waste streams, and assist in the execution of obtaining and evaluating the resultant analytical data.
A report of findings for each site was developed and Geosyntec assisted this client with additional tasks such as U.S. EPA Self-Disclosure and corrective action support (e.g., reporting, permit application).
Upon completion of the above items, Geosyntec will be assisting the client with the development of a standardized environmental management system.
Geosyntec’s unique understanding of the many specific states in which the client operated, strong nationwide collaboration, and delivery of a high-quality product has helped this client manage through some specific compliance issues. Geosyntec continues to support this client with the development of a standardized EMS which will give the client greater assurance of compliance looking forward.
