Project Objective

After purchasing its municipal marina two decades before work began, the City of Isle of Palms recognized that the facility's infrastructure was aging while its popularity had increased to the point where parking and traffic became extremely problematic. Geosyntec led a multidisciplinary team of consultants supporting the City with redevelopment of the marina.

Scope of Services

Geosyntec worked with City staff, council members, key stakeholders, and residents to assess the existing conditions at the marina to create redevelopment scenarios to capitalize on the popularity of the site, improve traffic flow and parking, and provide improved public parking and water access. Each stakeholder had their own requirements for water access, parking, utilities, and general site use. Critical elements of the master plan included maintaining substantial public access and parking for an onsite boat ramp and creating a separate launch for nonmotorized vessels like kayaks.

Notable Accomplishments

Geosyntec successfully navigated many complex issues and priorities to create an effective redevelopment master plan that maximized public access, greatly improved traffic flow and parking, promoted pedestrian use, provided ample recreational opportunities, and maintained current uses at the site. In addition to design, permitting, and bidding for the renovation, we provided construction administration services.
