To improve the decision-making process and support effective water and natural resource program implementation, transportation agencies need synthesized research and guidance on a variety of topics related to stormwater characterization, treatment and control, and regulatory compliance.
Geosyntec's Scope of Services
Geosyntec personnel have co-authored over a dozen research reports and guidance documents for the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) – a state department of transportation funded program administered by the Transportation Research Board (TRB) of the National Academy of Sciences. Through this applied research Geosyntec is helping shape the state of practice for highway runoff management and water quality impact mitigation nationwide.
Through the NCHRP, Geosyntec has led or helped produce reports on highway runoff research needs, stormwater best management practice (BMP) selection and design, runoff volume reduction and infiltration guidance, construction stormwater management, bridge deck runoff quality control, National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permitting, Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) compliance, managing deicing and anti-icing runoff, and watershed-based approaches to achieving Clean Water Act (CWA) goals. Geosyntec has helped several State DOTs apply the research results and guidance, including for transportation agencies in Washington, Oregon, California, Ohio, Georgia, Nevada, and Wisconsin.
As the lead researcher or as the major subconsultant, Geosyntec has led many tasks common to NCHRP projects, including conducting literature reviews, completing DOT surveys, developing decision support tools, and preparing highly relevant and easy to use guidance for state DOTs.
