Project Specifics

A large solar generating firm requested Geosyntec to develop industrial hygiene methodology for unique contaminants at the site and conduct exposure monitoring over two shifts and approximately 15 different exposure groups.

Geosyntec Scope of Services

The objective of the project was to analyze employee’s exposures at the site to allow the client to manage risks and put in place proper controls, if needed.

Geosyntec first evaluated the existing data and determined the best test methodology for the employee exposure monitoring. Following Guidelines from the American Industrial Hygienist Association’s, AIHA Strategy Book, 4th Edition, Geosyntec developed the monitoring plan. Geosyntec deployed field staff, who collected samples over a three-day period and two working shifts. Approximately sixty samples were collected, analyzed and then compared to federal OSHA (Occupational Safety & Health Administration) Permissible Exposure Limits and OSHA Short-term Exposure Limits. The monitoring also included a noise study to determine if employees should be subject to a Hearing Conservation Program.

Notable Accomplishments

A written report was provided to the client, analyzing the data collected and made recommendations for the client to consider, based on compliance with OSHA’s exposure limits, hearing conservation program requirements and associated risks.

Geosyntec provided a comprehensive analysis of the exposures the client’s employees experience and provided recommendations. This analysis allowed the client to manage the risks associated with exposures in the workplace. Employee exposures were defined well enough so that the client could ensure that proper controls were in place and to manage risks in a cost-effective manner.
