Project Specifics
Geosyntec has been supporting MODON since 2017 on Hudayriyat Island, a reclaimed landmass adjacent to Abu Dhabi’s main island. This mixed-use community will be themed around culture, coastal living, pearl diving, and nature. We have provided detailed marine engineering services on completed projects, including Cove Marina, Campsite Beach, Laguna Beach, and the Bab Al Nojoum Overwater Villas.
Geosyntec Scope of Services
Since the beginning of our involvement in these projects in 2017, we have contributed to the development of the concept master plan, conducted many types of modeling, and applied our knowledge to support these complex projects.
Geosyntec’s contribution to these projects includes advising on the coastal engineering aspects, conducting hydrodynamic and sea-level-rise assessments, creating a coastal management strategy framework, choosing the siting and sizing of the marinas, and designing waterfront features and facilities.
For Cove Marina, our work supports the construction of 40 to 80 berths, two breakwaters, and a pile-and-deck pier. For Campsite Beach and Bab Al Nojoum Overwater Villas, we addressed a portion of the island’s shoreline that will be developed as camp sites and overwater villas. These projects include realigning a portion of the shoreline, creating a reclamation fill area with a beach contained by two groynes, and adding overwater villas.
Notable Accomplishments
Geosyntec has helped MODON successfully develop this large project, which includes 2,960 hectares and will have 30 kilometers of waterfront developments on all sides, along with housing for Emiratis and spaces for commercial and leisure use. We have played a key role in assisting master planners and engineers in creating an active and sustainable shoreline that celebrates the region’s culture and history.
Note: At the time of this project, Geosyntec practitioners were contracted as ATM, which was acquired by Geosyntec.
