Project Specifics
Geosyntec is working with a confidential client to organize, manage, and respond to the various regulatory orders for a site in Northern California. This includes managing and tracking the groundwater monitoring programs, handling compliance reporting, managing the project database, and conducting quality assurance and quality control. We are also developing data querying, reporting, and interfacing tools for project stakeholders.
Geosyntec Scope of Services
Of the 3,000+ groundwater monitoring and 150+ groundwater extraction wells at the site, more than 1,800 are routinely monitored and sampled through 17 performance monitoring programs across an approximate 80-square-mile area. Geosyntec’s initial task involved compiling the numerous orders, plans, and requirements into a comprehensive groundwater monitoring plan to establish a baseline annual field schedule for the sitewide program. As part of this work, the team developed database-driven scheduling and tracking tools to support compliance with the monitoring requirements of various federal and state orders for the project. Geosyntec also revises and updates the site’s quality assurance project plan (QAPP) and standard operating procedures (SOP) documents to maintain and improve the quality of all data from the field and analytical laboratories. In the QA/QC role, Geosyntec conducts routine field and laboratory audits that inform necessary corrective actions and periodic updates to the QAPP and SOP documents. Geosyntec oversees the management of the project database, which includes daily incoming field and analytical data, data validation, and project chemistry support. We have developed several tools through which stakeholders can access and interact with all project data, including numerous Microsoft SharePoint querying and reporting portals, an Esri web-based interactive map, and external Microsoft Access database portals with direct links to the entire project database housed on enterprise and cloud servers.
Notable Accomplishments
Geosyntec staff developed a customized mobile device application used for the semiannual plant-wide water-level effort (all 3,000 wells tagged in 4 days) and for routine groundwater sample collection, streamlining the data collection and scope tracking, quality assurance, and append processes, and developed near-real-time data screening procedures to automatically alert stakeholders of time-critical new data and provide one-click access to interactive data-reporting and analysis tools. We also implemented a rigorous quality assurance program for subcontracted analytical laboratories and assisted laboratory chemists in developing advanced analytical methods for emerging compounds. Geosyntec proposed and received approval for reduced formats for key routine monitoring compliance reports and streamlining formats, allowing for more efficient report preparation and more effective data analysis and presentation. As part of this project, we have developed several unique tools for data collection and field support, including tablet-based field-data-collection applications and sample-label printing that integrate with the project database in real time.
