Project Specifics

Geosyntec was appointed by the Government of Umm Al Quwain (UAQ) to conduct maintenance dredging of the Ahmed Bin Rashid Port Channel and 1 kilometer of beach reclamation on the UAQ open beach waterfront. This large port is the key entry and exit point for cargo ships traveling to and from the United Arab Emirates. It includes four berths with an 845-meter quay and a .23 square-kilometer yard.

Geosyntec Scope of Services

Geosyntec practitioners performed the detailed engineering and design of the dredging works and the beach. We also provided tender support, including the issue of the invitation to tender (ITT) package and tender evaluation and recommendation. During the construction phase, we handled site supervision of the project.

Our work included dredging of roughly 900,000 cubic meters of material in the approach channel, turning basin, and wharfs along the existing quaywall. We also conducted dredging to achieve reclamation of a beach 1 kilometer west of the port.

Notable Accomplishments

The project included working closely with the marine contractor. We were involved in this large and complex project through all phases, from design to construction.

Note: At the time of this project, Geosyntec practitioners were contracted as ATM, which was acquired by Geosyntec.
