Hydropower Licensing and Compliance
Geosyntec serves a wide range of Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) licensees, from top-tier power providers who operate dozens of hydropower facilities, to dam owners with smaller add-ons. No matter the scale of the project, our team of engineers and geologists understand the current FERC regulations and are well versed in risk-informed decision making (RIDM).

Practice Specifics
We have developed positive relationships with FERC staff through collaborative project efforts. Our technical leadership and understanding of FERC requirements enhance our ability to assist clients in managing relicensing costs and obtaining reasonable license terms and conditions for continued project operation. As a member of the National Hydropower Association, Geosyntec stays informed of regulatory developments affecting our clients.
FERC requires hydropower dams to have Independent Consultants perform a Part 12D Inspection every 5 years. Geosyntec has a team of highly experienced dam safety personnel who have direct, first-hand experience with implementation of the FERC Part 12D process. Our “client first” culture has driven the success of many dam safety related projects for a diverse client base.
Our FERC-Approved Independent Consultants and supporting team members have successfully managed the FERC Part 12D process from data review and evaluation, field and site inspection, Potential Failure Mode Analysis (PFMA) workshops, PFMA reports, Part 12D safety reports with recommendations, and updates to the Supporting Technical Information (STI) documents.
