Water & Wastewater

LA County Metropolitan Transportation Authority

2026-04-02T15:56:46-06:00March 17th, 2026|

The LA County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) requested sustainability engineering services for water resources, conservation and compliance. Under legal obligations Metro is required to track, implement, and report on the following categories: climate change & resiliency, energy, solid waste & recycling, and water.  In order to maintain compliance in daily operations and capital projects, Geosyntec is tasked with providing research, analysis, planning, project development, and engineering services relating to the full life cycle of Metro's water sustainability and compliance programs.

Confidential Data Center Developer Groundwater Supply Development

2026-04-30T08:34:55-06:00December 24th, 2025|

The client is working to provide a reliable and sustainable groundwater supply for the design, development, and operation of a large-scale data center project. To accomplish this, they require a comprehensive evaluation of the site’s groundwater supply, including the physical and legal availability of water, water quality, and the condition of existing water infrastructure. Following initial evaluation, they require technical support in well siting, design, drilling, and testing for new groundwater supply wells to fit site redevelopment plans. Additionally, the project requires specialized permitting and regulatory support on local, regional, and national laws and permitting requirements for site redevelopment, as well as developing partnerships with agencies and stakeholders.

Waterfront Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) and Power Plant

2026-04-02T16:52:41-06:00September 26th, 2025|

Strategic Biofuels is building Louisiana Green Fuels (LGF), a carbon-negative waterfront facility in the Port of Columbia, Louisiana, that will produce low-carbon fuels and power. The Port of Columbia is highly supportive of LGF’s mission to produce sustainable aviation fuel and naphtha using forestry waste, mostly roundwood feedstock (logs and round sections of wood) from managed forests that is compliant with the federal renewable fuel standard.

Moorman Yard Sanitary Pump Station Replacement

2026-05-28T09:09:59-06:00August 13th, 2025|

The Norfolk Southern Railway Corporation, Inc. (NSRC) Moorman Yard is a major rail classification yard. Sanitary waste at the site is collected and treated before being discharged off-site via stormwater collection swales. Due to new expansion plans and desires to avoid potential discharge limit issues, NSRC needed to shift away from on-site treatment and transition to the local publicly owned treatment works (POTW) for handling the sanitary waste flows from the site.

Seismic Deformation Analysis and ADAS Retrofit

2026-03-08T09:17:00-06:00November 11th, 2024|

Geosyntec evaluated the seismic stability of the Blue Ridge Dam at the Blue Ridge Hydroelectric Plant, which was constructed between 1925 and 1930 by the Toccoa Electric Power Company on the Toccoa River near Blue Ridge, Georgia. In 1939, it was purchased by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). The dam is a semi-hydraulic fill earthen embankment constructed by placing compacted “dumped” fill from nearby sources on the upstream and downstream faces, portions of which were subsequently washed using water cannons to mobilize the soils, creating a sluiced fill zone and a central puddled core of fine-grained material.

Risk Assessment of Potential Chemical and Microplastic Releases from Polymer Blend

2026-04-07T09:07:20-06:00October 3rd, 2024|

A confidential federal client developed several new polymer-blend construction materials using virgin materials, with the goal of eventually manufacturing the final products using waste stream plastics and glass from local municipal recycling facilities. To support the client, Geosyntec performed environmental risk assessments to assess potential risks to aquatic environments.

Groundwater Extraction and Treatment System

2026-04-02T16:01:02-06:00September 25th, 2023|

Our client operates an aqueous-film-forming foam research and development and fire-training facility in the Midwest. Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) were detected in groundwater collected on and around the property; this groundwater discharges to a surface-water drainage ditch. The client retained Geosyntec to design, construct, and commission a groundwater extraction and treatment system (GETS) to intercept groundwater before it discharges to the ditch, treat the captured water, and reintroduce the treated water to the ditch.

Due Diligence and Environmental Compliance Services at Manufacturing and Maintenance Facilities

2026-05-26T09:13:35-06:00October 19th, 2022|

Geosyntec’s client is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of diesel engines, diesel and natural gas generators, and diesel-powered refrigeration units. To provide life-cycle services to its customers, our client operates multiple manufacturing plants supported by a regionally-owned distributor network of approximately 200 sales and service shops throughout North America; these regional distributorships are the backbone of our client’s engine business, providing sales, support, and maintenance. During the periodic ownership transfers of the distributorships, our client voluntarily audits facility infrastructure, including environmental compliance and physical plant conditions, to identify areas opportunities to prevent pollution. Our client’s environmental commitment is a core company value that extends to its approach to current and potential sources of contamination at its properties. During each transaction, an facility evaluation is conducted that includes a traditional ASTM Phase I ESA and a high-level environmental compliance evaluation. This evaluation process also helps our client establish the CERCLA “innocent landowner defense” while establishing the baseline environmental status of the property from both compliance and existing-contamination-conditions perspectives.

Remediation and Other Environmental Services at the Northside Generating Station

2026-04-02T16:51:11-06:00June 28th, 2021|

JEA’s Northside Generating Station has supplied electrical power to the City of Jacksonville since the 1960s and currently operates three boilers and four combustion turbine generators. Prior Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) investigations detected impacts to groundwater, surface water, soil, and sediments at multiple solid waste disposal areas.
