Venkat's practice focuses on National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permitting; municipal stormwater program planning and implementation; integrated stormwater watershed master planning; stormwater BMP selection, design, and maintenance; stormwater guidance manual development; drainage retrofit designs to incorporate water quality treatment in the urban environment; channel maintenance plan development; stream restoration/river training design; hydromodification management studies; FEMA LOMR/CLOMR studies; sediment yield studies; post fire hazard mitigation studies and Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDL) implementation planning.
Public sector clients benefit from Venkat's leadership in developing watershed compliance and storm water capital improvement master plans. These watershed master plans identify and prioritize multi-benefit projects that improves water quality, provides flood risk reduction, improves habitat and meet community goals. Venkat was the lead design engineer for two award-winning stream rehabilitation projects in southern California.
Venkat was the lead author of the 2018 Regional Model BMP Design Manual for the San Diego County Copermittees and the 2018 Storm Water Standards Manual for the City of San Diego. These manuals include a performance standard to meet the sediment supply requirements for hydromodification management which advances the state of the practice. Venkat has developed and conducted multiple trainings for BMP design and hydromodification management. He is currently assisting the City of San Diego with development of an innovative stormwater trading program.
