Salvatore (Sal) Giolando, PhD, is a Senior Principal Environmental Health Scientist based in Ohio with more than 35 years of experience focused on global product stewardship.

A leader of Geosyntec’s global product stewardship team, Sal directs international product stewardship programs across a wide range of global supply chains and chemicals and biocidal products.

Throughout the past 20 years, Sal has worked to develop best-in-class client-focused global product stewardship practices, building collaborative global teams and establishing long-term strategic relationships with Fortune 50 multinational corporations. Before that, he managed global product safety and regulatory affairs at The Procter & Gamble Company, where he worked both in the United States and the European Union. He has helped numerous companies understand and comply with EU Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) and other challenging regulations, and he has supported the development and continued marketing of a wide range of innovative and sustainable consumer and industrial products and services.

A leading expert on EU REACH and REACH implementation, Sal has worked extensively in the areas of product safety and efficacy, bioavailability, environmental health risk and exposure assessment, international regulatory affairs, and risk communication. His industry expertise spans the research and development process, from upstream molecular design of substances with improved environmental health properties to design of experimental testing programs and computer models that enable site-specific, national, and international chemical product risk assessments. He has directed simultaneous multinational product registrations of dozens of new chemicals and families of chemicals in the United States and Europe, negotiated with regulators and diverse stakeholders, and directed technical public relations programs to limit misperception of hazards and risks associated with the use of various chemicals in globally marketed products.
