Olivia Cain is an Environmental Engineer based in Florida who focuses on site assessment and remediation of contaminants including per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), chlorinated solvents, volatile organic compounds, metals, and petroleum hydrocarbons. She also supports related litigation and provides asbestos-survey oversight.

Clients turn to Olivia for remediation design and implementation, including sampling, analysis, bid documents and specifications, remedial action plans and work plans, pilot testing, performance monitoring, post- remediation monitoring, and reporting. She also conducts monitoring well installation oversight and sampling, installs treatment wells, performs subslab-vapor sampling, and coordinates with state and federal regulatory agencies. During remediation projects, Olivia implements technologies including air and carbon-dioxide sparging, soil-vapor extraction, multi- and dual-phase extraction, excavation, in situ chemical oxidation, monitored attenuation, hydraulic control, enhanced in situ bioremediation, and emulsified zero valent iron. In addition, she prepares feasibility studies, technology evaluations, and designs for of water treatment projects incorporating granular activated carbon, filtration, air stripping, chemical oxidation, and biological treatments.

Olivia has worked with clients to assess or treat PFAS at more than 35 sites, including over 15 associated with fire training or aqueous film-forming foam. To support PFAS remediation, she conducts sampling, supports contractor procurement and oversight, and oversees well installation. She also handles project management and reporting, document review, and desk-top assessments She helps identify potential PFAS sources and develops conceptual site models and remedial designs. She also helped draft and continuously updates Geosyntec’s PFAS standard operating procedures and has served as a field-team lead on multiple projects, training more than 25 field staff members across the firm. Olivia audits Geosyntec’s implementation of PFAS standard operating procedures for consistency between sites.

To advance the state of the practice, Olivia speaks on emerging trends, potential PFAS liabilities, and strategies for assessing and treating PFAS. She has presented at conferences including the Air and Waste Management Association, the American Groundwater Trust, the Birmingham Association of Environmental Professionals, the North Alabama Environmental Professionals Association, the Middle Tennessee Environmental Professionals Association, the Florida Environmental Permitting Summer School, and the Florida Remediation Conference.
