Client Service

Food-and-beverage clients benefit from his expertise at protein-processing, confectionary, and agribusiness sites. Mining clients seek him out for his knowledge of coal and precious metals sites. His capabilities include designing biological and chemical treatment systems to treat high-strength wastewaters in flows from several hundred gallons to several million gallons per day. Nick helps clients evaluate treatment options and select suitable, best-value treatment systems while navigating various permitting landscapes, stringent effluent limits, and other regulatory challenges. Such work includes managing process design of wastewater treatment plants, evaluating the capacity of existing wastewater treatment plants, leading site investigations at industrial wastewater treatment systems, and managing project delivery teams.

To advance the understanding of the treatment challenges, Nick offers extensive experience analyzing the chemistry and microbiology of wastewater treatment systems. He is active in ongoing treatability studies and research projects in collaboration with clients, universities, and Geosyntec. The results of these treatability studies have informed full-scale design of wastewater treatment plants, chemical selection for chemical treatment systems, and sizing of biological reactors, as well as related process design requirements.

Nick is a member of Water Environment Federation, Western Canada Water, and the Water Environment Association of Ontario. Nick maintains up-to-date literature data and information on wastewater-treatment-system practices, pretreatment and direct-discharge regulatory challenges, food-and-beverage industry regulations, and food-safety and contact-water regulations related to water reclamation and reuse in food plants.
