Jorge Murillo, MAIG

Jorge brings practical experience conducting and directing geotechnical studies for civil works, mining, and manufacturing. He specializes in calculations to assess dam stability, especially for tailings storage facilities (TSFs), as well as to support excavations, foundations, and slide correction. He also develops execution criteria and recommendations for earthworks and creates geotechnical reports on behalf of clients in the mining, manufacturing, and civil-works sectors. In recent years, Jorge has supported several tailings dam projects throughout their full life cycles, serving as EoR, IR, and third-party auditor-advisor.

Throughout his career, Jorge has supported mine waste and tailings projects in many countries and with varied challenges, discussing, sharing, and learning with practitioners across disciplines and international borders. He offers clients the benefit of his in-depth experience with implementation of the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM) and his familiarity with international best practices. In the first half of his career, Jorge became involved with a TSF with a GISTM Consequence Class of Extreme and is currently EoR of this facility. This experience gave him an in-depth understanding of the evolution of a TSF during the GISTM implementation and continues to inform his work for clients today.
