James (Jamie) Evans is a Senior Consultant based in Ontario with more than 35 years of experience in environmental risk management.

For over 22 years at the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), Jamie evaluated environmental risks to support financial transactions in Canada, the United States, the Caribbean, and Europe. He addressed issues ranging from a leaking underground storage tank on a residential property in Nova Scotia to project financing of a liquified natural gas facility expansion in Qatar. During his time at RBC, Jamie reviewed over 17,000 transactions with a loan value of approximately $70 billion, including dozens of project finance transactions under the Equator Principles in Canada, the United States, and the Middle East. In addition, he calculated CO2 emissions for RBC-owned real estate and developed and provided environmental risk training to hundreds of account managers across the company.

During his previous years in consulting, Jamie completed environmental site assessments, investigated and remediated contaminated sites, conducted risk assessments and regulatory compliance audits, and supported facility decommissioning. This work included serving as environmental manager for Highway 407, where he supervised outside contractors involved in noise, archeology, solid and hazardous waste disposal, groundwater impact mitigation, and heritage preservation; the project received the 1998 Environmental Management Award from the Canadian Construction Association.

In service to his field, Jamie was a task-force member on the Government of Canada National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy where he addressed brownfield redevelopment. He also served on Canadian Standards Association committees, where he helped develop standards for Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments that are now used across Canada. Jamie advises academics, lawyers, environmental consultants, regulatory agencies, and clients on environmental issues and speaks at conferences and seminars across North America.
