Client Service
Derek has experience providing hydrologic services for municipal, solid-waste, mining, military, commercial, agricultural, and industrial clients. His experience primarily includes groundwater-supply development for public and private clients, hydrogeologic site characterization and conceptual model development; water-quality permitting and compliance support, groundwater-management and dewatering strategies for open-pit and underground mines, construction dewatering to support pipelines and land development, project management, and business development.
Clients seek out Derek for his extensive experience with drilling methods, hydraulic testing techniques, and analyses among a wide range of hydrogeologic settings and industries. His project experience includes hydrogeologic support in the western United States, Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, South America, Africa, and Asia. More recently, he has focused on aquifer storage and recovery studies in central Washington, as part of a regional alternative project for groundwater storage to reverse groundwater-level declines and to ultimately develop a resilient and sustainable groundwater supply for a diverse set of stakeholders, including state, municipal, tribal, agricultural, industrial, and recreational users.
To advance the state of the practice, Derek actively participates in the National Ground Water Association and the Geological Society of America and serves on the Washington Hydrogeological Symposium Steering Committee. He is coauthor of the “Gravity Reduction Spreadsheet to Calculate the Bouguer Anomaly Using Standardized Methods and Constants,” a free and simple tool for field data reduction and modeling that was published by The Geological Society of America’s Geosphere.
