Chuck Whisman is a Senior Principal Engineer based in Pennsylvania with more than 27 years of professional experience helping his clients with their most challenging engineering, site development, and environmental projects across the world. His work is most focused in the areas of soil and groundwater assessment/remediation, site development, coastal engineering, due diligence, data and information management, regulatory compliance, and engineering automation and system optimization.
Examples of Chuck's practice experience include: serving as lead engineer and/or project manager on hundreds of remediation projects, including the LNAPL remediation at Cable Beach in the Bahamas to allow for a $3 Billion resort redevelopment; primary lead for BP's global integrity management program development, hurricane response, site development, and coastal engineering work throughout the Caribbean, and many rapid remediation programs to allow for property development and reuse.
He has led the design, construction, and operation of many large and innovative remediation injection systems, including systems that aggressively remediated large NAPL impacts such as coal tar, creosote, and petroleum products. He has worked on some of the most challenging remediation projects for many leading oil & gas, energy, and industrial companies, including ExxonMobil, Chevron, BP, Shell, Equinor, Sunoco Logistics, Buckeye Pipeline, Energy Transfer, General Electric, and more. He has assisted clients with many creative data acquisition and information management programs, usually to automate workflow, reduce risks, and provide improved data access and modeling. He supports large investment projects with due diligence, risk management, business evaluation, government/regulatory affairs, and planning/permitting.
Chuck has presented at more than 80 technical conferences on remediation, redevelopment, sustainability, and energy. He has been keynote speaker for events and conferences, including topics regarding U.S. oil & gas development and NGL/petrochemical growth opportunities. He has served on the board of directors of the Shale Alliance for Energy Research, and has worked on research projects, technology development initiatives, and best-practice development teams.
He has helped clients such as ExxonMobil, Chevron, Shell, and BP with engineering/remediation best practices, operations/integrity management program development, coastal engineering and protection projects, and R&D support. He is frequently asked to speak at regulatory industry events, such as regional/national UST and waste meetings led by EPA or state agencies and their stakeholder associations. Chuck has a patent on in-situ ozone and peroxide injection techniques (United States Patent 7175770, issued March 16, 2004, on "Methods and Systems for Groundwater Remediation - Ozone and Hydrogen Peroxide Injection"). Chuck works closely with many global clients to help develop or improve their environmental management systems, operations/integrity management procedures/programs, best practices, HSSE programs, coastal protection, and risk management systems. He is a licensed professional engineer in Pennsyvania.
