Geosyntec, Savron, and SiREM Staff Present at and Partner With the 2021 RPIC Federal Contaminated Sites National Workshop
Geosyntec, Savron (a Geosyntec company), and SiREM (a Geosyntec company) practitioners will present virtually at the Real Property Institute of Canada's (RPIC's) Federal Contaminated Sites National Workshop (FCSNW) from November 15-18, 2021. Geosyntec has also provided an in-kind partnership and volunteered resources towards the various organizing committees for the event.
The Real Property Institute of Canada (RPIC) aims to develop a high professional standard of real property management within the Federal Public Sector and provide a forum for information exchange and continuous improvement. The FCSNW is a professional development workshop for federal and industry environmental professional involved in the management and remediation of federal contaminated sites.
Cherilyn Mertes, P.Geo. is a Senior Scientist with experience in planning and coordinating soil and groundwater investigations and remedial programs at sites contaminated with nitroaromatics, perchlorate, chlorinated solvents, chromium, and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). She specializes in contaminant hydrogeology, groundwater remediation, enhanced in situ bioremediation, phytoremediation, remedial site investigation, and applied research.
Danielle Thorson, P.Eng. is a Senior Engineer with more than 15 years of experience in environmental consulting in Canada, the United States, and Brazil. She specializes in soil, groundwater, and sediment site investigation, remediation, and litigation projects. Danielle's project experience includes developing conceptual site models for sites contaminated with non-aqueous phase liquid (NAPL) and integrating multiple lines of evidence for the purpose of developing a remedy design.
Darius Mali, P.Eng, C-NRPP is a Project Engineer with environmental consulting experience including soil vapour sampling, high volume sampling (HVS), building pressure cycling (BPC), engineered phytoremediation (TreeWell), self-sustaining active remediation (STAR), and groundwater remediation. He performs detailed engineering design, equipment selection, system construction and testing, sample collection, data management, and technical writing.
Suzanne O'Hara, QPESA, P.Geo, P.G. is a Principal Hydrogeologist with over 20 years of field work and project management experience focusing on remediation of groundwater and soil containing recalcitrant compounds using innovative and more conventional technologies. Suzanne has directed, managed, and provided technical support for multiple projects ranging from overall strategy development, site investigation, contaminant fate and transport and conceptual site model development, and remedial design and implementation.
Tracy Dannell, EP is a Project Scientist/Biologist with more than 16 years of professional environmental experience focused on contaminated sites, natural sciences, and environmental compliance at both the program and project level. Tracy has managed the planning, design, and implementation phases of several environmental projects relating to infrastructure, buildings, and the environment for a variety of clients in both the private and public sector. She has been on the RPIC FCSNW committee for more than 10 years.
William Templeton, P.E. is a Professional Engineer with experience in coastal, hydraulic, and civil engineering. He has worked on a wide variety of projects that include dredge analysis and design; coastal restoration; estuarine, coastal, and ocean circulation; wind/wave, sediment transport, and morphological numerical modeling; computational fluid dynamics modeling in support of scour analyses and wave and current force analyses of in-water structures; and analysis and design of coastal structures such as revetments, breakwaters, groins, seawalls, and jetties.
Jason Conder, Ph.D. is a Principal Scientist based in California with more than 15 years of experience focused on risk assessment and contaminated sediments in contaminated site assessment and management, environmental toxicology, and ecological and human health risk assessment.
Jennifer Arblaster is a Project Scientist based in Vermont with eight years of experience in ecological and human health risk assessment, sediment site characterization, bioaccumulation modeling and evaluation of environmental quality criteria.
Rachel James is a Project Professional based in Ontario with more than 10 years of experience in aqueous geochemistry in the mining industry, including conducting bench- and pilot-scale treatability testing and water quality and biogeochemical investigations in support of mine development decision making for a broad range of projects. She is well informed in relevant emerging trends and guidelines initiated by environmental regulatory authorities.
David Major, Ph.D., BCES is a Senior Principal and Vice President of Geosyntec Consultants International and the Managing Director of Savron with more than 30 years of experience focused on negotiating, managing, and directing the development and deployment of cost-effective remediation strategies and technologies for challenging contaminated sites.
Gavin Grant, Ph.D., P.Eng. is a Senior Principal and the Operations Manager of Savron with more than 15 years of experience focused on environmental remediation and the development and implementation of the Self-sustaining Treatment for Active Remediation (STAR) technology. Gavin is responsible for the commercialization, project delivery, and research and development of STAR, and he has completed numerous STAR/STARx projects for clients in the chemical manufacturing, oil and gas, and utility industries.
Brent Pautler, Ph.D. is the Chemistry Services Manager at SiREM and an environmental analytical chemist with advanced technical experience in passive sampling, spectroscopy, chromatography, mass spectrometry, and chemistry informatics. Throughout his career, he has been dedicated to working with scientists, engineers, and consultants, applying his chemistry and information technology expertise to help them solve unique problems both in the laboratory and the field.
Sandra Dworatzek is a Principal Scientist with more than 25 years of experience in bioremediation of chlorinated solvents, petroleum hydrocarbons, emerging contaminants, and other recalcitrant compounds. She has specific technical experience in the design of laboratory treatability studies, the scale up of growth of aerobic and anaerobic microbial cultures for bioaugmentation laboratory and field pilot tests, and evaluation of aerobic and anaerobic bioremediation, zero valent iron, and chemical oxidation technologies in the laboratory.
