Geosyntec Practitioners to Attend and Present at Nordrocs 2022

Geosyntec Practitioners Maria Florberger, Ph.D. (Sweden), Thomas Jansson (Sweden), Jim Wragg (United Kingdom) and Gary Wealthall, Ph.D. (United Kingdom) will attend and present at Nordrocs 2022 at the Scandic Holmenkollen Hotel in Oslo, Norway, September 5 through 8, 2022.

Dr. Florberger will present two posters titled "Site-specific risk assessment of a site impacted by PFAS" and "Risk assessment of the soil ecosystem function using the TRIAD approach (chemistry, ecotoxicology and ecology) at a site impacted by DDT". She is also an author of another poster being presented by another at the conference, "Former forest nurseries contaminated by DDT—risk assessment at present land use."

Mr. Jansson, together with Leo Regazzoni of Lectus, will present "Certified sampling in practice—10 years with certified environmental sampling according to Nordic standard" at 8:30 a.m. CEST (Central Eastern Summer Time) Wednesday, September 7.

Mr. Wragg will present a poster on "Innovative Methods for Vapour Intrusion Investigation and Assessment."

Dr. Wealthall will present "Advances in the Bioremediation of DNAPL source zones in fractured bedrock" at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 6.

Dr. Florberger is a Senior Professional with more than 20 years of experience in risk assessment, environmental strategic advising, environmental due diligence and environmental permitting. She is an expert in practical risk assessment of contaminated sites, including experience in risk assessment of wildlife and domestic animals. The risk assessments have included a vast variety of contaminants and different media. She has also been involved in developing guidelines for the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, EQS for TBT for the Swedish Agency for marine and water management as well as exposure models for assessing risks with DDT at former plant nurseries for the Geological Survey of Sweden.

Mr. Jansson is a Principal Hydrogeologist with more than 30 years of experience as an environmental consultant, focusing on Brownfield assessments and site remediation. His work encompasses environmental and geotechnical site investigation, risk assessment, permitting, and due diligence. In addition, he designs and manages in situ and on-site remediation, including on site remediation of petroleum-contaminated soil and groundwater as an entrepreneur. As a board member of the Swedish Geotechnical Association (SGF) committee for contaminated land, Thomas is responsible for the national certification scheme for environmental sampling and co-author for various SGF publications and guidelines.

Mr. Wragg is a Senior Principal Contaminant Hydrogeologist with more than 30 years' experience in the in the assessment and remediation of industrially impacted sites. He has particular expertise in the use of high-resolution site characterisation approaches as well as bench and field scale testing to verify remedial approach selection and design. He has worked extensively across Europe, South Africa, Brazil, and the Middle East.

Dr. Wealthall is a Senior Principal Consultant with over 30 years of experience in contaminant hydrogeology research and practice. He is Managing Director of Geosyntec's consulting business in the UK and Ireland as well as an adjunct professor at the University of Toronto. While leading multiple projects in complex fractured bedrock, Gary uses high-resolution site characterization methodologies, develops advanced conceptual site models, assesses contaminant fate and transport, evaluates remedial options, and implements risk-based corrective actions.

NORDROCS 2022 will be the eighth joint Nordic meeting on remediation of contaminated sites. The general theme of the conference, "crossing borders," acknowledges both the shared aspects of remediation in the Nordics and the ways in which remediation differs from country to country. Normally held every two years, this will be the first conference since 2018 and will include participants and speakers from the private and public sectors as well as from the EPAs of the Nordic countries. The four-day event includes short courses, poster sessions, workshops, exhibits, presentations, and, on the final day, a technical tour of the Langøya landfill site.
