Geosyntec and Savron Presented at SERDP & ESTCP's Annual PFAS Meeting

Geosyntec and Savron, a Geosyntec company, staff delivered platform and poster presentations at the Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program (SERDP) and the Environmental Security Technology Certification Program (ESTCP) annual per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) Meeting in Long Beach, California from July 18 through July 21, 2022.

Jean Zodrow, Ph.D. (Colorado) and Laura Kinsman (Ontario) delivered poster presentations, and Dave Major, Ph.D. (Guelph) and David Reynolds, Ph.D., P.Eng. (Sydney) gave platform presentations. In addition to the presenters, several Geosyntec and Savron practitioners attended, including Jason Conder, Ph.D., John Merrill (California), Brian Harrison, Joshua Brown, P.Eng (Ontario), and Zach Pandelides (Mississippi).

Jean Zodrow, Ph.D. (Colorado) is a Senior Scientist at Geosyntec with more than 23 years of experience in risk assessment and environmental toxicology. Her experience also includes bioaccumulation and bioavailability of environmental contaminants, biological assessments, and water quality criteria review.

Laura Kinsman (Ontario) is a Professional Scientist at Savron, a Geosyntec company, where she focuses on developing and implementing the STAR technology for smouldering remediation. Laura completed her master's degree under the direction of the inventors of the STAR technology and, since joining the company, has been actively involved in system installation, field operations, and project management across North America and Asia. Her work includes both pilot testing and full-scale applications of both in situ (STAR) and ex situ (STARx) smouldering remediation.

Dave Major, Ph.D. (Guelph) is a Senior Principal based in Ontario with more than 30 years of experience focused on negotiating, managing, and directing the development and deployment of cost-effective remediation strategies and technologies for challenging contaminated sites associated with Fortune 500 companies. He is Savron's Managing Director. Savron is part of the Geosyntec family of companies and a provider of sustainable waste management and remediation solutions. Dave also serves as Chair of Geosyntec's Technology Advisory Council, an internally funded research and development program.

David Reynolds, Ph.D., P.Eng. (Sydney) is a Senior Principal Engineer and based in Sydney with more than 20 years of experience specialized in the development and implementation of groundwater remediation technologies and management strategies for complex sites with challenging hydrogeological conditions. He is the Australian Operations Manager for Geosyntec.

SERDP and ESTCP are the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) environmental research programs. Principal investigators and team members for PFAS-related projects funded through SERDP & ESTCP attended the meeting. Talks focused on PFAS toxicity, sampling, analysis, forensics, treatment, and fate and transport.

SERDP is DoD's environmental science and technology program, planned and executed in partnership with the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), with participation by numerous other federal and non-federal organizations. SERDP invests across a broad spectrum of basic and applied research, as well as advanced development.

ESTCP is DoD's environmental technology demonstration and validation program. The Program was established in 1995 to promote the transfer of innovative technologies that have successfully established proof of concept to field or production use. ESTCP demonstrations collect cost and performance data to overcome the barriers to employ an innovative technology because of concerns regarding technical or programmatic risk, the so-called "Valley of Death."
