Leah MacKinnon and Julie Konzuk to Present on Leveraging CSM to Develop Bedrock Remediation Approaches

Leah MacKinnon, P.Eng., and Julie Konzuk, Ph.D., P.Eng. (Ontario), will present a webinar on Leveraging your CSM to Develop Successful Bedrock Remediation Approaches: Concepts & Case Studies at 1:30 p.m., EST on February 8, 2022.

Leah and Julie's co-presenter is Chapman Ross, FRx, Inc.

Leah MacKinnon is a Senior Principal Engineer based in Ontario with more than 20 years of professional experience in remediation of groundwater containing recalcitrant and emerging compounds using innovative in situ technologies in the U.S., Canada, and Europe.

Julie Konzuk is a Senior Principal Engineer based in Ontario with more than 20 years of experience focused on developing and implementing cost-effective remedial strategies from the initial site assessment stage through pre-design testing, pilot-testing, full-scale implementation, and site closure for clients in Canada, Australia, and the U.S.

The Northeast Waste Management Officials' Association is a non-profit, non-partisan, interstate association whose membership is composed of the state environment agency programs that address pollution prevention, toxics use reduction, sustainability, materials management, hazardous waste, solid waste, emergency response, waste site clean-up, underground storage tanks, and related environmental challenges in the northeast states.

Abstract

This webinar will focus on overcoming characterization and remediation challenges specific to bedrock sites. Developing an accurate conceptual site model (CSM) is a critical first step in the remediation process. Some of the key aspects of CSM development at bedrock sites include identifying the rock type, delineating the source mass, characterizing the fracture network, and understanding the groundwater flow regime. For in situ remediation at bedrock sites, the treatment technology and amendment delivery methods require careful consideration. Two case studies that demonstrate how well-developed CSMs were leveraged to implement successful remediation approaches at these complex bedrock sites will be presented.
