Rula Deeb to Speak at a PFAS Seminar Presented by the California Council for Environmental and Economic Balance
Rula Deeb, Ph.D., BCEEM, PMP (California) will participate as an invited panelist on "PFAS Liability and Risk Management" at a PFAS Seminar hosted by the California Council for Environmental and Economic Balance (CCEEB) on February 1, 2022.
Rula 's co-presenters are Reza Zarghamee of Pillsbury and Susan Paulsen of Exponent. Janet Whittick, Vice President of CCEEB,will moderate the panel discussion.
Rula Deeb is a Senior Principal based in California with more than 25 years of experience in private practice and academia focusing on cross-media fate and transport of contaminants and remediation of complex soil and groundwater sites. Her work promotes awareness and understanding of the sources, occurrence, fate and transport, and behavior of emerging contaminants, including per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), 1,4-dioxane, methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE), perchlorate, N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA), endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs), and pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs).
The PFAS Seminar is entitled "The Emerging Regulatory Landscape in California" and includes three panels, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. It will begin with "PFAS 101," which will provide background on industrial uses of PFAS, address challenges, and explore emerging science. The second panel, "Today's Regulatory Framework," will focus on the patchwork of legislative responses to PFAS, USEPA's work to establish standards, and California's evolving regulatory framework. Rula and her co-presenters will tackle the challenges of detecting and managing PFAS across its lifecycle under potential frameworks and will explore potential liability and risk management issues for industry.
