Geosyntec Guides Clients through Updates to the ASTM Phase I Environmental Site Assessment Standard

Geosyntec due diligence practitioners are prepared to help clients navigate the release of ASTM's updated Phase I Environmental Site Assessment Standard (ESA E1527-21).

Every eight years, ASTM releases updates to the Standard. The 2021 update strengthens definitions and requirements and provides further guidance regarding environmental risks, including the subject of emerging contaminants. Because Geosyntec practitioners served on the committee that worked to update the Standard, they are well-equipped to support clients in conducting due diligence projects under the new Standard as soon as it is recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

While the update may not take effect for some time, Geosyntec is already preparing for how changes will affect our clients. Since the new Standard is as rigorous as the current one, it may be explored and even implemented while meeting current requirements. However, there are several nuances to definitions and standard practices which will require more consideration. Geosyntec believes this time before the EPA approval provides a good opportunity for us to work with clients to thoroughly understand and seamlessly implement the 2021 update.
