James Rayner to Deliver Keynote Address on Strategic Collaboration at Complex Sites at the 2021 Contamination & Geotech Expo

James Rayner MSc, FGS (Bristol, UK) will present "Strategic Collaboration for Remediation of Complex Sites" at Contamination & Geotech Expo 2021 at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, UK at 2 to 2:30 p.m. (GMT+1) on September 23, 2021.

Geosyntec is exhibiting at stand 4-H112 during the Expo, so feel free to come by and meet the UK team.

James Rayner has more than 18 years of experience in the assessment, management ,and remediation of contaminated land in the UK, Europe, North and South America. He is a contaminant hydrogeologist specialising in the development of advanced conceptual site models and evaluation of contaminant fate and transport. James applies pioneering data analysis and modelling techniques to assess feasibility and performance of monitored natural attenuation and remediation technology alternatives for complex environmental liabilities associated with operational and legacy chemical and pharmaceutical facilities. He contributes to several research and industry collaboration initiatives with the US Department of Defense Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program (SERDP), UK Society for Brownfield Risk Assessment (SOBRA) and Network for Industrially Co‑ordinated Sustainable Land Management in Europe (NICOLE). He has lectured for the M.Sc. Contaminant Hydrogeology postgraduate study program at the University of Sheffield, UK and delivered technical training in site characterization, risk assessment and groundwater modelling at the Battelle International Conference on Remediation of Chlorinated and Recalcitrant Compounds and for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of Ireland. James has published industry guidance documents with SOBRA, EPA of Ireland and the CL:AIRE sponsored revision of the UK Monitored Natural Attenuation guidance.

Contamination & Geotech Expo is the UK's leading event for Contamination, Geotechnical, and Environmental professionals and reaches every corner of the industry to bring the contamination and the geotechnical sectors together. The expo boasts a unique educational programme consisting of expert-led seminars and panel debates, live demonstrations of the latest technology, as well as market-leading companies, equipped with the industry's finest solution-led products and services. The event is organized by Roar B2B.

Abstract

Strategic collaboration between liability owners, consultants, contractors, suppliers, and academic partners underpins the remediation of complex sites. The characterisation and remediation of environmental liabilities is driven by the combined vision of the team to develop and deliver solutions that permit the transition of contaminated sites from liabilities to assets through redevelopment and divestment. The integration of novel, quality data collection approaches with advanced data analytics can unlock the value in environmental data, enabling the development of robust conceptual site models that support decision making under uncertainty. Effective communication strategies are key to remediation planning and implementation and to achieve regulatory approval for site closure, particularly for challenging contaminants and complex environmental settings.
