Lelio Mejia Awarded ASCE Geo-Institute’s Ralph B. Peck Award
Lelio Mejia, Ph.D., P.E., G.E., NAE is named the recipient of the Ralph B. Peck Award from the Geo-Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).
This is one of the most prestigious awards given by ASCE each year and past recipients have been distinguished leaders of the Civil Engineering profession.
The award is presented for outstanding contributions to the geotechnical engineering profession through the publication of a thoughtful, carefully researched case history or histories, or the publication of recommended practices or design methodologies based on the evaluation of case histories.
Lelio’s award was conferred for international leadership in and contributions to the practice of geotechnical earthquake engineering, for the seismic evaluation and design of embankment dams and foundation systems, and for the refinement and calibration of analytical procedures through the examination of key case histories.
Lelio is a Senior Principal Engineer based in California with more than 35 years of experience in geotechnical and earthquake engineering. For many years, he has focused on the challenges of dam and levee engineering and is a leading international authority in this field, with emphasis on the seismic design and performance of dam structures. Lelio leads Geosyntec’s Western U.S. dams and levees practice and is a registered civil and geotechnical engineer.
The Geo-Institute is a specialty membership organization focused on geo-professionals and the geo-industry. It is one of the ASCE’s eight specialty Institutes.
