Geosyntec Practitioners to Present on Prediction and Management of COVID-19 Outbreaks at RPIC Real Property Workshop
Berend Velderman, P.Geo (Ontario), Phil Dennis (Toronto), Tracy Dannell, EP, (Virginia), and Trevor Carlson, QP, (Saskatoon) will present "Novel Testing, Treatment Tools and Approaches that Predict and Manage COVID-19 Outbreaks and Pandemics for Real Property Management" at the 2020 Real Property Institute of Canada (RPIC) Real Property National Workshop at 12:45 PM EST on November 26, 2020.
Berend Velderman has more than 25 years of hydrogeology experience as a subject matter expert in environmental due diligence, geochemistry, hydrogeology, water supply, sediment management, and site remediation. He has led project delivery around the world in these discipline areas for industrial clients. He has also led numerous site assessment and remedial implementation projects for clients in Canada, including developers, landowners, financial institutions, manufacturers, municipalities, the Canadian Federal Government, and First Nations.
Phil Dennis has more than 25 years of experience working in the fields of molecular biology, microbiology, and environmental remediation. As a Principal Scientist at SiREM, an industry leader in bioaugmentation and bioremediation testing, Phil focuses on research and development and management of molecular genetic testing services, where he played a key role in the firm's COVID response as part of a team that developed SARS CoV-2 testing capabilities.
Tracy Dannell is a Project Scientist/Biologist with more than 13 years of professional environmental experience focused on contaminated sites, natural sciences, environmental regulations, and compliance at both the program and project level. Tracy has managed environmental projects in the planning, design, and implementation stages for a variety of clients in both the private and public sector relating to infrastructure, buildings, and the environment.
Trevor Carlson is a Principal Environmental Consultant based in Saskatchewan with more than 20 years of experience focused on environmental remediation projects, including the characterization and remediation of hydrocarbons, chlorinated solvents, inorganics, and radionuclides. He is part of Geosyntec's COVID-19 team developing sustainable ways to decontaminated buildings and complex spaces from viruses and biological hazards. Most recently, Trevor has been involved in the development and testing of a rapid building disinfection method involving the use of ozone gas.
The 2020 RPIC Real Property National Workshop will include two days of keynotes and concurrent presentations, networking opportunities and a virtual tradeshow. The traditional Professional Development Day has been expanded to "days" so that everyone will have an opportunity to attend more than one training session.
It is the goal of RPIC to develop and foster a high professional standard of real property management within the Federal Public Sector and to provide a forum for information exchange and continuous improvement.
The objective of this presentation is to provide the science and innovation behind COVID-19 sampling and verification program(s) as diagnostic and predictive tools, using multi-increment samples from surfaces and sanitation systems. Case studies and lessons learned will be presented in relation to property management in terms of health and safety, best practices, and recent advances (e.g., controlled use of ozone gas for the disinfection of buildings and complex spaces).
