Geosyntec Achieving Success Identifying SARS-CoV-2 in Wastewater
Geosyntec has successfully identified the presence of SARS-COV-2 in wastewater for multiple public, private, and government clients. Wastewater testing provides a leading indicator and can provide an early warning for the presence of virus before people display symptoms.
Geosyntec provides timely wastewater data to our clients to help them make informed decisions about appropriate, community-specific responses. Through monitoring a sewer system for the flow-normalized presence and concentration of SARS-CoV-2 virus, we are able to help our clients gain an understanding of the prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 virus in their facilities or communities.
According to one satisfied client at a major sanitation district, SiREM Lab is faster and more responsive than other labs doing similar testing.
After discussing the use of this technology for Keane State College, Dr. Loren Launen, Professor of Biology, had the following to say: "It"s really fantastic that you are offering this expertise. For schools like mine, having a more affordable way to address the COVID-19 challenge will help these institutions navigate the coming challenges."
Geosyntec has also performed regular testing at Clemson University. Dr. David Freedman, Professor and Chair of Clemson University"s Department of Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences, referred to Geosyntec"s testing services as "impactful" and "outstanding" work. He also remarked that if the City of Clemson, which passed an ordinance based on wastewater testing results that requires masks in all public places, "takes action as a consequence of the sewerage monitoring data, it will be hard to come up with a better example of how this can be helpful to other cities that are considering public health measures but need the science to back it up."
