Brandon Klenzendorf Provides Public Information on Aging Dams in a CBS Austin Interview Following the Collapse of Dunlap Dam in Texas

Brandon Klenzendorf, Ph.D., P.E., CPESC (Texas) was recently interviewed by CBS Austin to provide public information on aging dams in Texas following the collapse of the Dunlap Lake dam on May 14, 2019.

Brandon explained the threat that aging dams pose to the public in Texas, noting the Dunlap Dam was more than 90 years old when it collapsed, which is almost double the life expectancy of a dam. Brandon reported the high percentage of Texas' dams that have already exceeded or will soon exceed the life expectancy of 50 years; this percentage was a major contributing factor in Texas' "D" rating on the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Infrastructure Report Card.

Brandon is a Water Resources and Environmental Engineer with nearly nine years of professional experience and an additional five years of research experience. Brandon's practice focuses on modeling and design of green infrastructure (GI) and stormwater management facilities to treat and infiltrate stormwater runoff for both water quality and flood mitigation purposes. His experience lies in conceptual design, planning, modeling, and quantifying the benefits of GI, particularly for retrofit situations. Brandon has been a member of the ASCE for 18 years, and he is currently the Director of the ASCE Austin Branch, Texas Section.
