Geosyntec Wins 2019 Environmental Stewardship Award from Partners for Environmental Progress

Geosyntec was awarded a 2019 Environmental Stewardship Award for "Environmental Stewardship: Student Education on Watershed Management and Water" from Partners for Environmental Progress (PEP) at the PEP 2019 Annual Membership Meeting in Mobile, Alabama on April 4, 2019.

Geosyntec partnered with the City of Daphne, Daphne Utilities, Mobile Bay National Estuary Program, Daphne High School, U.S. EPA, Baldwin County Master Gardeners, and others to acquire and implement a U.S. EPA grant to establish a watershed pilot project along Alabama's Tiawasee Creek  to educate to students and the community on improved water quality. Geosyntec staff provided the educational foundation to students at Daphne High School which was needed to implement best management practices at the site. Students learned the concept of watershed, how water moves across the landscape, and how pollutants are picked up and ultimately reach the bay,

Wade Burcham, Lane Dorman, Tracy Dannell, and Mollie Taylor were honored to be at the meeting and receive the award.

Since 2005, the PEP Board of Directors has presented the PEP Environmental Stewardship Awards to recognize PEP members whose work has made a significant and positive contribution to the region surrounding the Gulf of Mexico in three crucial areas: economic growth, environmental health, and social responsibility.

PEP is a coalition of business and education leaders who share the vision of applying science-based environmental best practices to business and community issues. Their members are concerned businesses – large and small – who value PEP's unique natural resources and economy. They understand that the future of their area depends on ensuring a balance between business development and job creation, industrial growth and a healthy environment.
