Raphael Siebenmann and Robert Dunn Presented on the Application of Unmanned Aerial Systems to the Alabama Mineral Institute
Raphael Siebenmann P.E. and Robert Dunn (Georgia) presented "Case Studies on Application of Unmanned Aerial Systems" to the Alabama Mineral Institute at The University of Alabama's Bryant Conference Center in Tuscaloosa on September 13, 2018.
The presentation detailed the use of unmanned aerial systems (UAS, i.e. drones) at four project sites, with a focus on lessons learned and applicable technology transfer to multiple scientific and engineering practice disciplines. Specific applications discussed included the use of light detection and ranging (LIDAR) data for geomorphic change detection and geotechnical engineering reconnaissance.
Raphael is a Senior Engineer based in Georgia with more than 15 years of experience focused on areas of chemical fate and transport, site characterization program development and management, data management and visualization, fate and transport modeling, risk assessment, as well as geotechnical instrumentation installation, and real-time monitoring.
Robert is a Senior Staff Scientist based in Georgia with a focus on environmental permitting and ecosystem restoration. His experience includes applying principles of biology, ecology, and natural resource conservation and management to a variety of projects including natural gas pipelines, telecommunication towers, hydropower projects, stream restoration projects, and industrial developments.
The Alabama Mineral Institute program covers topics includes mining, geology, water policy, mine construction and regulation, health and environmental issues, coal bed methane, and related subjects.
