Andrea Braga to Present on Urban Water Quality at 2018 NEWEA Annual Conference

Andrea Braga (Massachusetts) will present in Technical Session 18 at the New England Water Environment Association (NEWEA) at the Boston Marriot Copley Place in Massachusetts from 1:30-4:00 p.m. on January 23, 2018.

Andrea's session, entitled "Evaluating Urban Water Quality in Boston's MS4," and will discuss the recently completed, award-winning study to investigate sources of bacteria and nutrients in Boston's stormwater discharges and evaluate the efficiency of the city's ongoing illicit discharge detection and elimination (IDDE) program. Using advanced tools including DNA markers, the team determined the presence of human waste in municipal separate storm sewer system (MS4) outfalls and quantified pollutant sources. Results from this study will benefit the Boston Water and Sewer Commission (BWSC) by guiding increased efficiency and effectiveness of their IDDE program, improving water quality protection, and supporting compliance with MS4 permit and Consent Decree requirements.

Andrea Braga is a Principal Water Resources Engineer based in Massachusetts with more than 12 years of professional experience focused on helping clients develop innovative solutions to their complex water quality, flooding, and National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) compliance issues.
