Rishab Mahajan to Speak on Sediment Transport Modeling for Ports and Harbors at ASCE COPRI Meeting

Rishab Mahajan (Illinois) will be delivering a presentation entitled "Sediment Transport Modeling to Support Port and Harbor Activities" at the quarterly meeting of the Houston Chapter of ASCE's Coasts, Oceans, Ports and River Institute (HTX-COPRI) in Houston, Texas on November 14, 2017.

Rishab Mahajan is a water resources engineer principally involved in hydrodynamic, sediment transport and water quality modeling with a focus on regulatory permits and requirements, stormwater management, surface water system assessments, Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) development and implementation, and nutrient criteria limit development. He has 9 years of experience in the development and calibration of hydrodynamic, sediment transport and water quality models, including one-dimensional (1-D), 2-D, and 3-D models. He has been involved in several CERCLA projects involving surface water, sediment transport, and fate and transport processes.

Rishab worked on the development of hydrodynamic and sediment transport model for Savannah Harbor as part of the Savannah Harbor Expansion Project (SHEP). He applied the model to assess the impact of deepening of navigation channel on freshwater marshes and to assess the efficiency of proposed diversion structure on Savannah River.

Rishab's presentation was co-authored by Rob Annear (Oregon) who is a Senior Principal Water Resources Engineer at Geosyntec Consultants.

HTX-COPRI's goals are to enhance the advancement of scientific and engineering knowledge for members engaged in sustainable development and protection of coasts, oceans, ports, waterways, and wetlands. HTX-COPRI will bring added products and services to local members of ASCE and will foster communication and cooperation among our members in government, industry, and academia.

Created by ASCE in 2000, COPRI is a semi-autonomous institute providing services designed to complement ASCE's traditional civil engineering base, and attract non-engineering allied professionals who seek to enhance their professional and technical development.
