Martha Carr Appointed to National Association of State Boards of Geology Council of Examiners
Martha Carr (Georgia) has been appointed to the National Association of State Boards of Geology (ASBOG) Council of Examiners (COE) effective March of 2017.
Twice a year, the COE convenes to analyze results and statistics of past questions. Three members of the COE write future exam questions while the other three members review each question. The questions are then reviewed by Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in another peer review session to ensure the questions are worded clearly and correctly. There is then another review session before the exam is administered. After the exam, the COE reviews comments about the questions from the examinees in a post-exam review session.
ASBOG serves as a connective link among the individual state geologic registration licensing boards for the planning and preparation of uniform procedures and the coordination of geologic protective measures for the general public.
One of ASBOG's principal services is to develop standardized written examinations for determining qualifications of applicants seeking licensure as professional geologists. State boards of registration are provided with uniform examinations that are valid measures of competency related to the practice of the profession. Examination candidates are provided with a copy of the Professional Geologist Candidate Handbook which delineates the format and outline for the exam.
